A list of reactions to the Abu Dhabi 2021 F1 Grand Prix controversy

Article: A list of reactions to the Abu Dhabi 2021 F1 Grand Prix controversy

The controversial ending to the 2021 Abu Dhabi, where the race director Michael Masi, decided to change all the rules of the sport in the last 4 laps to allow Max Verstappen to win his first world championship sparked some amazing reactions on twitter, here are some of them:

George Russell: THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

Juan Pablo Montoya: If I was Mercedes personally I would fight it until the end because the rules are written and if you go by what the actual rule book says that all cars must be waved (past) , so why just allow the cars between first and second, was Carlos in third not in the race?

Pierre Gasly: "The thing with Liverpool was a bit of a surprise" "There were definitely some thoughts about Abu Dhabi 2021" Pierre Gasly has his say on Liverpool's controversial VAR incident.

Daniel Ricciardo: I’m glad I’m not a part of that, whatever just happened, it seemed pretty fucked up

James Vowles: Its about being a sportsman, let me explain it, you can win a world championship but if you’ve done so in a way which is not fair and sportsman like, you will have regrets for the rest of your life. Yes you have a championship to your name, but it will be sullied, it will be muddied, it wont be pure .

Guenther Steiner: And regardless of what decision Charlie Whiting might have made in Michael Masi’s position, there would have been far less controversy and embarrassment. Oh, f**k it. We all know what Charlie would have done. Had he been at the helm Lewis would now be an eight time world champion.

Sebastian Vettel:  The whole thing left quite a strange impression. The field behind the safety car should have been sorted much earlier. I made the suggestion on the radio after the first lap.

Nico Rosberg: It was heart breaking for him, absolutely, because up until four laps from the end he was almost certain to be world champion. Then with this change of procedure, or whatever you call it, suddenly he lost the world championship, So it was tough, extremely tough.

Lando Norris: I don’t know exactly what was said or what was done or so on, but a controversial ending, that’s all I can say. So, it was obviously meant to be a fight. It was for television, of course. It was for the outcome. Whether it was fair or not, its difficult for me to decide.

Harry Kane: I’m new to F1 and it’s been amazing to watch Lewis and Max battle it out. I’m no expert on it but I feel like there’s some bizarre rules that give an unfair advantage like today ? Why should Hamilton be penalised for somebody else’s crash?

Serena Williams: He should have had 9 already. But .. Lemme be quiet

Gary Lineker: Imagine Man City and Liverpool going toe to toe for the title. On the last day of the season they meet & City are 3 up with just minutes to go. The referee decides it would be more exciting to have a penalty shootout. What’s more the City players have to be barefooted. That’s @F1

Jeremy Clarkson: It’s like the VAR handball yesterday. What is the point of these idiots?

Piers Morgan: New F1 World Champion @Max33Verstappen’s Grand Prix win yesterday was thrillingly unpredictable, sensationally exciting, and also completely unfair… @LewisHamilton was robbed by rule-bending officials who wanted to give us all a great dramatic TV moment. That’s not sport.
