Lacuna Coil at O2 Academy Bristol Concert review

Article: Lacuna Coil at O2 Academy Bristol Concert review

Lacuna Coil return to the UK, but who are Lacuna Coil?

Originally formed in 1994 in the Italian city of Milan, Lacuna Coil are a popular Gothic Metal band.

Lacuna Coil translates from Italian into English as ‘Empty Spiral’, and was chosen as the bands name based on how they reflect on our existence in life.

The music style of Lacuna Coil has been described as both melodic and heavy. They are known for the very heavy / shouty male singing style and the operatic style of the lead singer  Andrea Ferro.

The line up of the band has been very consistent since their formation with only the addition of a new guitar player earlier this year.

The opening act for the Bristol show, and the whole UK tour was by the Finnish band ‘Blind Channel’

Blind Channel formed in Finland in 2021 and were actually selected to participate as the Finnish entry in the 2021 Eurovision song contest.

With a classic Nu-Metal sound, they play a mix of their own songs with a couple of cover songs.

A crowd highlight of their set was the cover of ‘everybody (Backstreet's Back)’  by the Backstreet Boys, which strangely provided a s large crowd sing along, something you may not have expected by an 1600 strong audience of gothic metal fans!

A good set and a promising band of the future.

Lacuna Coil at O2 Academy Bristol England –  October 26th 2024

The O2 Academy is a popular music venue in the culturally rich city of Bristol. It has a capacity of approximately 1600 people.

The O2 Academy Bristol is known for its excellent acoustics, and is also notorious for being a venue where you feel really tightly packed in, claustrophobic at times which results in a very humid environment for fans.

Drinks in the O2 Academy are notoriously expensive with a pint costing more than £7.50 on this occasion.

The band enter the stage all dressed in the same branded black jumpsuits, silhouetted by blue and red lighting.

Opening with the thunderous song ‘Blood, Tears, Dust’, a heavy opener with stunning vocals, clearly setting the standard for the rest of the show.

Lacuna Coil continued to play an array of songs for almost their entire back catalogue. Many fan favourites were played including one of their biggest hits ‘Heaven’s a Lie’.

New song  ‘Oxygen’ from their forthcoming album ‘Sleepless Empire’ which is due to released in February 2025, was extremely well received.

Later in the set Lacuna Coil played a regular live cover version of Depeche Modes ‘Enjoy The Silence’ which went down very with the crowd and was a good interim break to the high energy heavy songs.

The set ended with the anthem ‘Nothing Stands in Our Way’, a great way to end a high energy show.

The vocals and sound were perfect throughout and the interaction with the crowd was also super.

Its hard to understand which this band is not playing in bigger venues.
